Thirty-two years after taking noted jazz composer/arranger Don Sebesky’s arranging class when I lived and played in New York, I finally arrange a big band tune. Here it is:
Yes I know. Better late than never….maybe. This one is the 100+ year old popular tune “After You’ve Gone.”
The gentleman sitting to my right is Matso Limtiako who arranged a number of tunes for this band. Matso was very generous with his technical knowledge and support as I’ve tried to warm up this skill. Much of it I like but I notice a lot of the trumpet and brass leads are buried because I didn’t use unisons enough….over harmonizing if you will. Stay tuned, there is another in the pipeline. This time composed by me as well.
Very nice arrangement, I’m sure Don S. would be proud of his pupil!
Yeah man! Sounds great.
